Reading mentors are committed to making reading more enjoyable
Exchange meetings in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district - more volunteers wanted

They read, motivate and accompany children on their way into the world of books: the reading mentors in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district met again this year for a joint exchange. On October 8, eight reading mentors from the northern district came together, followed by 14 from the south on October 23.
There are numerous reading mentors working at primary, secondary and special schools in the district. Some accompany "their" class over several school years, others support children individually from the first to the fourth grade. "The children look forward to their reading lesson every week - and it's an enriching task for us too," reported the volunteers.
A highlight of this year's meetings was the presentation by Stefanie Scheja, who introduced the participants to creative methods for practising reading. With playful elements such as the "lightning bolt" and "snail" cards, syllable carpets or special bookmarks, children can practise in a motivated and enjoyable way. According to Scheja, a "solution-oriented and appreciative attitude" is crucial in order to strengthen the children in the long term.
All participants agreed that the need for individual reading support remains high - and every helping hand counts. New reading mentors are currently being sought for the fifth grade at Bad Tölz secondary school.
