The Alpine bus: strengthens the region, connects people

The Alpenbus will be launched with the timetable change on December 14, 2025. The name stands for three new ExpressBus routes that connect Bad Tölz with Tegernsee, Miesbach and Rosenheim as well as Penzberg and Murnau. This means that for the first time there is a continuous east-west connection right across the Alpine foothills - fast, reliable and coordinated with central rail connections in the region. The service is aimed at commuters as well as locals and guests.

The ExpressBuses run every 60 minutes, seven days a week. On board, WLAN, USB ports and comfortable seats ensure maximum comfort. Thanks to the integration into the MVV tariff, passengers benefit from simple ticket solutions and often lower prices, as many routes are within a single tariff zone. The Alpenbus thus helps to relieve congestion on the roads, strengthen the regional economy and make mobility in Upper Bavaria more environmentally friendly overall.

Unlimited travel with MVV and Deutschlandticket. Whether it's a hike to the Eng-Almen, a summit tour to the Schafreuter or simply taking a deep breath - the BergBus Eng (line 369) commutes to the Tyrolean Rißtal, in the middle of the Karwendel Nature Park.

New from 2025: The MVV ticket or Deutschlandticket is valid on the entire route.

Line 369 is part of a forward-looking mobility concept for the Alpine region. Tourism and mobility go hand in hand here - for more recreation, less traffic and a region that we protect together.

The BergBus Eng campaign is supported by the district administration of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, the Karwendel Nature Park and the market town of Vomp - funded by the INTERREG program Bavaria-Austria 2021-2027.

The X970 express bus service between Starnberg and Bad Tölz has been in operation since December 2021 and has successfully established itself among commuters, with up to 2,000 passengers using it on some weekdays. In February 2023, a new project was also launched between the districts of Starnberg and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen: locals and guests are invited to use the X970 line for excursions and sightseeing.

As a thank-you to our passengers, we invite you to ride the bus for free on Saturday, September 19, 2026. At the same time, we’d like to give everyone who has rarely or never used public transportation the opportunity to try out the bus easily and with no obligation.

As part of European Mobility Week, all MVV city, regional, and express buses in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district will be free to ride on this day—even beyond the district boundaries, all the way to their respective terminal stops.

Also included is the Alpenbus, which operates MVV routes X990, X380, and X381; it can be used free of charge along its entire route from Murnau through Penzberg, Bad Tölz, and Miesbach to Rosenheim.

Traveling Together—Across Five MVV Counties

In addition to Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, the districts of Starnberg, Fürstenfeldbruck, Landsberg am Lech, and Dachau are also participating in the public transit trial day. This means that passengers in all five participating districts can use numerous bus routes free of charge for one day.

No registration or ticket is required—just hop on and go. Whether you’re going shopping, taking a trip to the mountains, visiting friends, or even heading to Munich for the Oktoberfest opening—the bus will take you to your destination in comfort, with flexibility, and in an eco-friendly way.

Little surprises included

Because we want to say THANK YOU!, we’ll be handing out little surprises on Public Transportation Trial Day on some buses and at bus stops in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district—things you’re sure to find very useful during your visit to Oktoberfest in Munich.

Public Transportation Open House

The Public Transportation Trial Day has been held in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district since 2023. The goal of this event is to showcase public transportation as a convenient, eco-friendly, and flexible alternative to driving—both for daily commutes and leisure activities. The event is part of European Mobility Week, a Europe-wide initiative that highlights sustainable mobility every September.

The journey to school is more than just the way to school - it is a learning and experience space in which children develop independence, road safety and social skills. This is exactly where the primary school competition "Fit for school, fit for the future!" comes in, which will take place for the first time in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in 2025.

From September 29 to October 17, 2025, primary school children in grades 1 to 4 are invited to get to school as often as possible in an active and environmentally friendly way - on foot, by scooter, by bike or by bus and train. The aim is to encourage the children's urge to exercise, strengthen cooperation and counteract the "parent cab" problem.

The competition is a joint project of the MVV network districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Dachau, Freising, Miesbach and Starnberg as part of the "Mobile Future Munich" (MZM) alliance.

All participating classes receive a certificate as a reward. Particularly committed schools and classes can look forward to great prizes:

• 500€ prize money for the most successful school in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen
• A great class excursion with the forester on the mountain forest adventure trail in Wolfratshausen for the district's winning class
• And another special highlight: The best school of all MVV network districts receives a visit from the "RoSi" S-Bahn simulator of the Munich S-Bahn - an exciting experience where the children can take the wheel themselves.
