Bavarian Biodiversity Award 2026: More biodiversity through near-natural hedges and edges
25,000 euros to be won
District of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen/Munich. Clubs, associations, municipalities, schools, churches as well as individuals and groups with thematically appropriate projects can apply for the Bavarian Biodiversity Award 2026 until January 31, 2026. The motto of this year's award is "More biodiversity through near-natural hedges and edges". It is awarded every two years and is endowed with 25,000 euros. In 2026, a special prize of 1,000 euros will also be awarded to school classes.
The prize is intended to raise public awareness of nature conservation and environmental protection, in particular the preservation of species and habitat diversity. The Bavarian Biodiversity Strategy from 2008 forms the basis for the award, and the Bavarian Nature Conservation Fund is suitable for the regular awarding of the prize due to its statutory tasks.
Hedges and fringes play an important role in the landscape by providing habitat, protection and food for numerous species. Projects that promote the conservation and development of hedges and hedgerows can be nominated for the award. Initiatives to raise awareness of these habitats as well as recording and monitoring projects are also eligible for the award.
Information on how to apply can be found and submitted at www.naturschutzfonds.bayern.de.
