Bavarian Dementia Week: Understanding and Experiencing Dementia

Presentation at the Quartierstreff Stein Care Center

Geretsried. What does it actually mean when familiar everyday situations suddenly become a challenge? As part of Bavarian Dementia Week, the Care Support Center for the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district invites you to a special event: Under the title “Dementia – (Not) a Question of Age,” the event will take place on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Quartierstreff Stein, Steiner Ring 10 in Geretsried, and will focus on information, support options, and personal experiences related to dementia.

Dementia does not only change the lives of those affected. Family members, friends, and the person’s social circle also often face new and challenging situations. This presentation provides basic information about dementia, answers important questions, and explains how to deal with the disease in a supportive and understanding way.

Not only understanding dementia, but also experiencing it firsthand to some extent: In addition to the lecture, four everyday situations from the dementia course are incorporated. The exercises allow participants to engage in a vivid and direct way with the challenges that people with dementia may face in their daily lives. Familiar activities can suddenly become unfamiliar or difficult. These experiences are intended to encourage participants to see things from the perspective of people with dementia and to develop greater understanding and empathy for their situation.

In addition, the Care Resource Center provides information about support and relief options for everyday life. Among other things, it outlines what kinds of assistance are available and which counseling and resource centers people with dementia and their family members can turn to.

The event is open to people with dementia, their family members, volunteers, and anyone else who is interested.

Every year, Bavarian Dementia Awareness Week draws attention to the living conditions of people with dementia and their families. It aims to promote understanding of dementia, reduce stigma, and strengthen the social inclusion of people with dementia.
