Dispose of garden waste correctly

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District. Anyone with yard waste is constantly faced with the question of how to dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way. In general, yard waste may be left to decompose on the property where it is generated. Shredding and composting are also effective ways to recycle plant waste and use it as valuable, free fertilizer in your own garden. If you don’t have these options, you can dispose of small amounts in the organic waste bin and larger amounts at the designated green waste collection points in the district.

In most cases, however, burning plant waste is prohibited. Anyone who fails to comply with these rules may be subject to a fine. Green waste may only be burned in rare exceptional cases, and strict requirements apply. For example, green waste may only be burned outdoors and under the supervision of at least two people over the age of 16 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Anyone leaving the fire site must completely extinguish the embers. To avoid false alarms, it is advisable to report such a yard fire in advance to the Oberland Integrated Control Center at www.raeumfeuer.de.

Garden waste does not belong in forests or fields either. Improper disposal of such waste poses the risk of significantly disrupting the natural nutrient balance, spreading fungal diseases, or even encouraging the establishment of non-native plants such as Indian balsam or Japanese knotweed.

These so-called neophytes can displace native flora and thereby deprive the animals that depend on it of their means of survival. They thus contribute to changes in biodiversity.
