Does our child really hear well?
Educational-Audiological Consultations at the Bad Tölz Public Health Department during the 2026–2027 School Year
Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District. Hearing is a crucial foundation for a child’s language, learning, and overall development. To detect potential hearing impairments early and provide targeted support to affected children, the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen Public Health Department will once again offer its proven educational audiology consultation hours during the 2026–2027 school year.
This service is intended for children and adolescents of all ages who are suspected of having a hearing impairment or for whom such an impairment needs to be ruled out. Even cases of hearing loss that have already been diagnosed can receive educational and audiological support during the consultation. In particular, this service is also available to children attending preschool or school who have not yet received specialized educational support from the Mobile Special Education Service for Hearing.
The goal of these consultations is to detect hearing impairments as early as possible and, if necessary, to initiate the appropriate supportive measures. Early intervention can help positively influence a child’s hearing and speech development, as well as their overall development. Even hearing impairments that do not become apparent until school age should be detected as early as possible. This is intended to ensure that children with hearing loss have the best possible opportunity for academic success.
The hearing tests and subsequent consultations are conducted by the specialized staff of the Educational Audiology Counseling Center at the Musenbergschule, a special education center in Munich focusing on hearing impairments. The educational audiologists are specialized educators in the field of education for the hearing impaired and have many years of experience working with children who have hearing and speech difficulties.
The consultation begins with a child-friendly hearing screening. This is supplemented by an in-depth discussion with the parents, during which their observations and assessments of their child’s hearing and development are taken into account.
In collaboration with the parents and in consultation with ENT specialists, pediatricians, and general practitioners, we work to identify the best possible treatment and support for each child. The sooner specialized educational interventions can be initiated, the sooner potential long-term consequences of an undiagnosed hearing loss can be prevented.
For specific assessments of auditory processing and perception, special requirements apply due to the underlying test standardization: Children must be at least seven years old, have age-appropriate language development in German, and have an IQ within the normal range.

The educational-audiological consultation hours are held every Thursday at the Bad Tölz Public Health Department, Prof.-Max-Lange-Platz 1, 83646 Bad Tölz.

The Bad Tölz Public Health Department recommends that parents seek professional advice early on if they have any concerns about their child’s hearing. After all, the earlier a potential hearing impairment is detected, the better equipped they will be to provide appropriate support and intervention.
