Isardamm Nature Experience – Rangers lead tours through the Isar floodplains near Geretsried
Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District. The fascinating flora and fauna of the Isar floodplains will be the focus of a guided discovery tour on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Nature enthusiasts are invited to join the nature conservation rangers in exploring the nature reserve along the Isar and gaining fascinating insights into one of the region’s most valuable natural areas.
We’ll meet at 10 a.m. at the tennis courts behind the Isardamm School in Geretsried. From there, the roughly four-hour hike takes us along the Isar River into the Isar floodplains.
During the field trip, participants will learn interesting facts about life along the river and its unique inhabitants. A key focus is on the beaver, whose structures have a lasting impact on the landscape. The habitats of gravel-nesting birds will also be highlighted, including the rare little ringed plover, which builds its nests on open gravel and cobble areas. Amphibians and their specific habitats along the Isar River will also be discussed.
In addition, the rangers explain how natural river dynamics shape the surrounding environment and why these processes are so important for the flora and fauna.
Part of the tour takes place on rough terrain. Therefore, sure-footedness and sturdy footwear are required. Since some sections of the trail are unpaved and there is a possibility of getting your feet wet, appropriate gear is recommended. Participants should also remember to bring a hat, insect repellent, and plenty of drinks and snacks.
The tour ends back at the starting point around 2:00 p.m. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20; the minimum number of participants is six.
You can register no later than two days before the event at the Geretsried Adult Education Center, by phone at 08171 529144, or by email at geretsried@isar-vhs.de or .
