District and municipality celebrate the laying of the foundation stone for the Icking gymnasium
Icking. Using synergies - that is what the municipality of Icking is achieving with the new construction of the double gymnasium for the elementary school and secondary school. The two public authorities, the municipality of Icking and the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, are sharing the costs for planning and implementation and are investing a total of 8.9 million euros in the new sports facility.
Politicians were present at the laying of the foundation stone, as were the architect, school management, the clergy and the pupils. The time capsule was ceremoniously filled with the certificate, building plans, coins, the current newspaper and pupils' contributions and sunk under the foundation stone. The three hammer blows were performed by Mayor Verena Reithmann, District Administrator Josef Niedermaier together with his successor Ludwig Schmid and architect Alexander Pfletscher, before everyone involved celebrated. In their speeches, Reithmann and the two district councillors emphasized how important collaborations such as this one in Icking are and will continue to be in times of tight budgets and resources. The primary school and lower school choirs and the Irschenhausen brass band provided the musical accompaniment.
Construction is estimated to take one and a half years. The result will be a double gymnasium that can be used by both schools as well as for club and popular sports. During the planning phase, the focus was specifically on sustainability, low energy consumption and low operating costs. In order to exploit synergy effects, the municipal library will be integrated into the building, the costs of which will be borne by the municipality.
