Experience Late Summer in the Isar Floodplains – Guided Hike from Icking to Schäftlarn

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District. The Isar floodplains between Icking and Schäftlarn offer a very special atmosphere in late summer. On Saturday, September 12, 2026, the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District Office invites nature lovers to join a guided hike through this unique landscape.

The tour, which lasts about four hours, runs from the Icking S-Bahn station along the Isar River to Schäftlarn. Accompanied by nature conservation rangers and area managers, participants gain fascinating insights into the flora and fauna of the Isar floodplains as well as the river’s historical uses.

The excursion begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Icking S-Bahn station. It is scheduled to end around 2:00 p.m. in Schäftlarn. At the end of the tour, there will be an opportunity to stop for refreshments at the Klosterbräustüberl Schäftlarn (at your own expense). The event ends at the Schäftlarn S-Bahn station.

The route is about five kilometers long and has an elevation gain of about 100 meters. In addition to paved hiking trails, the route may also include—depending on weather conditions—paths, gravel and cobblestone trails, as well as short sections through rugged terrain. The walking time is about 1.5 hours.

Participants are asked to bring sturdy, ankle-high, waterproof footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. We also recommend bringing drinks and, if desired, a light snack. Since we may have to cross a small stream, it’s a good idea to bring the appropriate gear. Hiking poles and binoculars are optional.

The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20 people, the minimum number of participants is six.

Registration is open until no later than two days before the event. Please provide a cell phone number when registering by calling 08041 505-155 or by emailing natur-erleben@lra-toelz.de.
