Ranger Hike Along the Isar: From Sylvensteinsee to Vorderriß
Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District. The Isar, a unique, wild river teeming with life—and at the same time a sensitive ecosystem caught between various conflicting interests—invites you to an extraordinary experience of nature. On Saturday, July 4, 2026, a ranger-led hike will take participants from Sylvensteinsee to Vorderriß through varied landscapes, primeval-like forests, and the Upper Isar Nature Reserve.
The tour offers fascinating insights into the river’s delicate ecosystem: Participants will experience the turquoise currents where the Isar flows into Lake Sylvenstein, observe beaver activity and reed beds, and learn interesting facts about nature conservation, sediment management, and the region’s diverse flora and fauna. The Isar basin is home to an extraordinary variety of species. Caught between sensitive habitats and intensive use, the central question arises: How much and what can this unique river and its watershed withstand—and what can each individual do to preserve it all? The route includes a short detour into the Rißbach Valley before the group ends its tour in Vorderriß.
The tour, which is about 8 km long, takes approximately 2 hours of walking time and follows forest roads, trails, and, in some places, gravel surfaces. You can stop for a break at the Gasthof zur Post in Vorderriß; the return trip is on your own and can be made using the Karwendelbus.
Meeting point: Saturday, July 4, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m., Sylvensteinsee Water Rescue Service parking lot near Fall (accessible via BRB Munich and the Lenggries shuttle bus),
Ends around 2:30 p.m. at the Gasthof zur Post in Vorderriß
Participants: 6–25 people; please register by July 1, providing your cell phone number, with the Lenggries Tourist Information Office, Tel. 08042 5008800 or info@lenggries.de
Sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and snacks are recommended. An unforgettable experience awaits all nature lovers!
