In the Realm of the Wild River – Guided Tour Along the Upper Isar at Vorderriß

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District. The Isar River near Vorderriß is one of the best-preserved wild river sections in Central Europe. This Natura 2000 site provides a unique habitat for numerous rare animal and plant species. Anyone interested in exploring this fascinating river landscape will have the opportunity to do so on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Together with area guides Michael Schödl from the State Association for Bird and Nature Conservation (LBV) and Birgit Weis from the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district, the participants embark on an exciting journey of discovery along the Isar. The focus is on the unique features of this wild river and its inhabitants—including the rare German tamarisk, the common sandpiper, and the spotted grasshopper.

The hike, which takes about two and a half hours, covers approximately five kilometers along gravel roads and some unpaved trails. The route is easy to navigate but requires a certain amount of stamina.
