Feed monitoring; taking feed samples
Brief description
Feed samples were taken from traders, manufacturers and farmers.
Description
The monitoring of animal feed is a matter for the federal states. Official feed monitoring is a basic component of consumer health protection. The production and feeding of safe animal feed is a prerequisite for the production of safe and high-quality animal food. It is also crucial for animal health and welfare.
Each district office employs a veterinary assistant who carries out veterinary and feed law tasks. The tasks of the veterinary assistants in the area of animal feed include taking samples from traders, manufacturers and farmers. The qualification for this is obtained in a training course specifically geared towards feed sampling. For each batch, up to 100 individual samples are taken in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 152/2009, from which a collective sample is taken and from which three final samples are formed. Between 2,500 and 3,000 official feed samples are taken in Bavaria each year.
