Senior Citizens' Compass

When do you become a senior citizen? This is a question that can be answered in very different ways.
There is no precisely defined age. It refers to the stage of life that follows one’s working years, when children have left home or are adults and, as a rule, independent. Today, this stage of life usually spans several decades.
Older adults are people with life experience who generally have more freedom and time to spend actively. In later life, however, they increasingly have to cope with the loss of loved ones and physical limitations.
What can you find where?
Activity

Under “Volunteer Opportunities, ” “Meeting Places,” “Lunch Clubs, ” and “Educational and Exercise Programs” (right column – “Programs”), you’ll find opportunities to connect with peers or across generations, to pursue continuing education and stay active, and to contribute your skills and experience for the benefit of the community. Since we cannot list all the programs—there are simply too many in our county—we have limited ourselves to those specifically designed for the older generation and highlighted opportunities that are open to people of all ages. The goal is to stay active and continue to enjoy life to the fullest, even with certain limitations.
Financial Hardship

Under " Tight on Cash" ( in the "Good to Know" column on the right), you'll find financial assistance for emergencies, as well as affordable and sustainable shopping options.
Living

Housing is an important topic ( see “Services” in the right-hand column). You’ll find contact information for assistance with financial support, accessible renovations, and various housing options. The brochure “A Home for Every Stage of Life” is available for download under “Publications.”
At the End of Life

Under “Saying Goodbye” (in the right-hand column, “Services”), you’ll find support during the final stages of life and during the grieving process.

Support, Care, Dementia

You can find support and care services, as well as information on dementia, at the Care Resource Center under “Support and Care” (in the “Good to Know” section in the right-hand column) and in the Senior Compass in the downloadable publications.
Precaution
