Commitment and volunteering
On this and the following pages, you will find information on all aspects of volunteering - the "Bavarian Volunteer Card", the digital volunteer exchange "FlexHero", events and other helpful tips on the topic of volunteering.
What is the volunteer office?
Advice and placement for voluntary work

In Germany, around 16.9 million people are currently involved (statista), 4.7 million of them in Bavaria.
The volunteer office is also known as the volunteer agency/volunteer center or coordination center for civic engagement (FA/FZ/KoBE). It promotes and strengthens civic engagement and volunteer work in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen.
In the district, many thousands of people volunteer in a wide variety of areas; in 2025, there were over 3,000 active firefighters in the fire department alone.
Tasks
The volunteer office encourages, advises and supports people throughout the district, especially those aged 50 and over, in their search for meaningful and satisfying voluntary work and places them in existing organizations.
We would be happy to advise you on volunteering at the volunteer office in the district office or locally in your community.
At the same time, the Volunteer Office also initiates appealing new projects or helps interested volunteers or communities who want to set something up together to implement their own projects or volunteer structures.
Goal
The aim of the Volunteering Office is, among other things, to convey a positive image of old age by presenting the potential of older volunteers, to promote the social participation of older people, to improve the framework conditions for volunteering and to strengthen intergenerational cohesion.
Voluntary work should also be recognized by this office, e.g. through further training opportunities or the issue of the Bavarian Volunteer Card under certain conditions.
Advice for volunteers and interested parties

There are numerous opportunities to volunteer here in the district.
The volunteer office will be happy to advise you in person or by telephone. Together we can find out in which area you would like to get involved, e.g. for people with a wide variety of issues or for nature, animals, climate protection, culture and much more. There is a lot to do!
Of course, we also welcome younger visitors to our website who would like to gain an insight and overview and become active.
Our digital volunteer exchange Flexhero also offers the opportunity to browse through various offers and register there directly.

Projects

Reading mentors
Reading is an essential basic skill for life!
More and more children are finding it difficult to read fluently and understand texts they have read. The volunteer office therefore launched the "Reading mentors for elementary school in the district" project in November 2009. Active senior citizens are deployed to work with one child or smaller groups in the morning or afternoon at school to practise reading and text comprehension and also to inspire a love of reading.
Over 100 reading mentors in 15 elementary school have been involved in this area so far. Schools, parents, teachers and, above all, the pupils are very happy about this support.
There is always a need for new reading sponsorships at schools in the district.
If you are interested, please contact the volunteer office in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district office.
The melody of wrinkles
A generational project of the contact point "Alt und Selbständig" of the Caritas Center Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, the Tölz Youth Promotion and the Volunteer Office. It is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labour and Social Affairs as part of the "Generations active together" program of lagfa Bayern.
A creative photo campaign took place in 2025 in which older people were portrayed by young people in everyday situations. Both generations then succeeded in interpreting the resulting photos musically with the help of artificial intelligence and homemade lyrics. This resulted in a selection of images of old age whose intergenerational perspective aims to raise awareness of the older generation among the population
