If you, as a food business operator, carry out activities related to the production, processing and distribution of food (including e-commerce), you must register with the competent district administrative authority.
Description
Food businesses are all businesses that carry out activities related to the production, processing and distribution of food. Food business operators are obliged to report the businesses under their control and important changes in activities as well as business closures. This applies to all businesses that operate at any stage of the processing, production or distribution of food.
Registration takes place with the responsible district administrative authority.
Food companies are for example:
- Food vending machine operators
- Bakeries
- Cafés
- Retail stores that carry food or food supplements in their product range
- Ice cream parlors
- Producers of food of animal origin
- Fishing, crustacean, shellfish and mollusc farms
- Restaurants
- Wholesalers, transporters, importers and exporters of foodstuffs
- Snacks
- Kiosks
- Confectioneries
- Kitchens and canteens (including all communal catering facilities)
- farms for the rearing or keeping of food-producing animals
- Food brokers (for example via the Internet)
- Milk bars
- Dairy processing plants
- Mini markets
- Mobile food trade including sales vehicles
- Primary producers of plant-based foods, such as fruit, vegetables, cereals and herbs
- Panels
- Petrol stations with food sales
- Food transporters
- Events with catering
- Party service and catering
Prerequisites
You have a business that produces, processes or sells food.
Your business is not yet registered with the competent authority or there have been changes to the working procedures or modifications to the information or data already recorded or you wish to deregister your food business.
Deadlines
- Registration must take place before commencing work.
- Significant changes to the work process or modifications must be reported immediately.

- Article 1(2) and Article 6(1) to (3) Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 29, 2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs
- Article 15(5) Regulation (EU) 2017/625 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 March 2017 on official controls and other official activities performed to ensure the application of feed and food law, animal health and welfare rules, plant health and plant protection products
- Article 3 No. 2 Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of January 28, 2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety
Procedure
- Use the form provided and send it to the responsible district administrative authority or use the online procedure. If no form is provided, you can register informally.
- The following data is required:
- Details of the name, address and legal form of the food business
- The following must be stated separately for each permanent establishment: the legal form, name and address of the permanent establishment belonging to the company
- The following must also be stated separately for each business premises: the respective activity and the type of business
