Hunting license and falconry license; application for issue and renewal
Brief description
The hunting license documents the basic authorization to hunt. Hunting with raptors or falcons requires a falconry hunting license. You must apply for the issue and renewal.
Description
The hunting license and the falconry hunting license are documents with which the holder proves his right to hunt. They are issued by the lower hunting authority responsible for the applicant's place of residence (the district administrative authority) as a one-year, three-year or one-day hunting license for 14 consecutive days. Many district administrative authorities also offer a corresponding application form on the Internet.
Anyone who has reached the age of 18 can apply for a hunting license.
- Persons who have reached the age of sixteen but are not yet eighteen may only be issued a youth hunting license . The application for a youth hunting license requires the consent of the legal representative.
- Young people who have reached the age of 16 may be issued a youth falconry hunting license ; however, they may only hunt with an experienced hunting companion.
Information on the issue and renewal of hunting licenses or falconry licenses can be obtained from the competent lower hunting authorities.

Prerequisites
Reliability and suitability
A hunting license/ falconry license is to be denied in particular if facts justify the assumption that the applicant does not possess the required reliability or physical aptitude.
The first issue of a hunting license is generally dependent on the applicant having passed a hunting examination within the scope of the Federal Hunting Act, which consists of a written, an oral and a practical part. Information on the hunting examination can be found under "Related topics" under "Hunting examination; registration".
The first issue of a falconry hunting license is dependent on the applicant having passed a falconry test in addition to the hunting test. In addition to the falconry test, a limited hunting test, i.e. without a shooting test, is sufficient. Information on the hunter's examination can be found under "Related topics" under "Hunter's examination; application".
Hunting liability insurance
The issue of the hunting license/ falconry license is dependent on proof of adequate hunting liability insurance. For this purpose, the applicant must submit written confirmation from the insurer stating that the named insurer has hunting liability insurance for the named policyholder that complies with the statutory provisions (in particular the sum insured). Furthermore, the start and duration of the policy or the period of validity of the confirmation must be stated. The period of validity must fully cover the daily, one-year or three-year hunting license applied for.
