Winter atmosphere at the Sylvenstein reservoir - stories of raftsmen, wild animals and flood protection
Guided winter hike with the nature conservation rangers and the area manager on Friday, January 23, 2026

When winter transforms the Sylvensteinspeicher reservoir into a glistening snowy landscape, the nature around the lake becomes a very special experience. On a guided hike with the nature conservation rangers and the area manager on Friday, January 23, 2026, visitors can immerse themselves in the history of the Isar - from the daring raftsmen of yesteryear to the construction of the reservoir, under whose waters an entire village lies hidden today.
In addition to exciting insights into flood protection, the tour offers the opportunity to get to know the wildlife around the Sylvenstein: with a bit of luck, chamois, red deer, capercaillie and hazel grouse can be observed. The area is part of the last large wild river landscape in Bavaria and thus preserves a unique natural heritage.
At the end of the three-hour hike, participants warm themselves at nightfall around a campfire with punch and a small snack. Four-legged companions are also welcome - but dogs must be kept on a lead.
