People, Life, and Stories – Walchensee: A Natural Wonder
Autumn Bike Ride on October 25, 2026, around the “Bavarian Caribbean Lake”
Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District. The Walchensee captivates visitors with its turquoise-blue waters, impressive mountain backdrop, and a light that often evokes Mediterranean landscapes. Yet behind this picture-perfect idyll lies a unique and fragile ecosystem. During the guided bike tour “People, Life, and Stories—The Natural Wonder of Walchensee” on Sunday, October 25, 2026, participants will gain fascinating insights into the natural and cultural landscape surrounding one of Bavaria’s most beautiful lakes.
Accompanied by a nature conservation ranger, participants explore the lakeside landscape of Walchensee on a bike tour that’s about 29 kilometers long. The tour focuses not only on the impressive natural areas but also on the people connected to the lake. At various stops along the route, locals, volunteers, and other stakeholders share stories about their lives at Walchensee and their commitment to protecting nature, wildlife, and people.
The tour invites you to experience the landscape consciously and mindfully, to gain a better understanding of ecological relationships, and to engage in conversation about sustainable ways of experiencing nature. A delightful break on the Zwergern Peninsula, with the opportunity to buy a fish sandwich, rounds out the experience before the route leads back to Niedernach via Sachenbach.
