“Land.Culture.Education”: 9th Network Meeting on Education for Sustainable Development
Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District. Under the motto “Soil. Culture. Education – Perspectives for a Sustainable ESD,” the Network for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the Oberland invites you to its 9th network meeting on Thursday, October 15, 2026. For the first time, the event will be hosted by the Art and Nature Foundation in Nantesbuch. The event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is open to all interested parties and stakeholders in the education sector.
The meeting will focus on soil as the fundamental basis for a healthy, resilient, and sustainable society. In collaboration with the Art and Nature Foundation, the network will explore how the topic of soil can be integrated into various educational fields and what ideas for sustainable education may emerge from this.
Education for Sustainable Development does not merely impart knowledge about global challenges such as climate change, social inequality, and the protection of natural resources. It also builds the skills needed to recognize interconnections, take responsibility, and actively shape sustainable development. The network meeting will therefore focus on the question of how ESD can be implemented in practice in schools, daycare centers, adult education, and other educational settings.
As early as 3:30 p.m., you’ll have the opportunity to explore the Nantesbuch permaculture garden as part of a field trip.
Following this, the Art and Nature Foundation will provide insights into its educational work on the topic of soil. The film “Living Soils” illustrates the importance of living soils for the environment and society and serves as the starting point for a joint discussion. The “Forum Nantesbuch” soil initiative and the “SOIL: Our Invisible Ally” project will also be presented.
The subsequent World Café will focus on various educational materials and methods related to the Earth, ESD, and cultural education. Participants will discuss how these materials can be used, adapted, and further developed in different educational contexts. The meeting will also include updates and developments from the network.
Participation is free. Registration is required; please email info@bne-netzwerk-oberland.de.

Background: Network for Education for Sustainable Development in the Oberland
To strengthen education for sustainable development in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district and to provide children, youth, and adults with the inspiration and skills needed for concrete sustainable action, the Education Network for Sustainable Development in the Oberland was launched in the fall of 2022 on the initiative of the Umweltstation Ökologische Akademie e. V. and with support from the district’s Climate Protection Management office.
The network’s goal is to raise awareness of existing ESD programs and to connect education stakeholders from various fields. The focus is on exchange, collaboration, and shared learning to further advance Education for Sustainable Development in the region.
Members of the media are also cordially invited to attend the event.
