Where the Isar Runs Wild—A Journey Through Pine Forests and Riparian Woods

Guided hike with the nature conservation rangers through the Isarauen Nature Reserve on September 5, 2025

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District. On Saturday, September 5, 2025, nature enthusiasts will have the opportunity to explore the Isar floodplains on a guided hike led by nature conservation rangers. Titled “Where the Isar Runs Wild—A Journey Through Pine Forests and Riparian Woodlands,” the approximately eight-kilometer tour winds through the Isarauen Nature Reserve and offers fascinating insights into the diverse habitats along the Isar.

The hike begins at the P2 Aujäger parking lot. From there, the route crosses the Marienbrücke bridge and follows the Isar River to the Isarspitz. Along the way, participants experience the fascinating transition from a sparse pine forest with snow heath to a species-rich riparian forest.

During the guided tour, the rangers provide fascinating insights into the unique flora and fauna of this protected area and explain why this habitat is so valuable and worth protecting.

The hike begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends around 3:00 p.m., back at the meeting point. The route follows mostly well-maintained hiking trails and, in some places, narrow paths. There are no major inclines to climb, but you will need to climb over a few fallen trees.

To participate, we recommend sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, as well as drinks and a snack. The tour will take place with a minimum of six participants; the group size is limited to a maximum of 20 people.
