Euregio - Schwaz, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Miesbach (Euregio SBM)

The Euregio SBM was launched in April 2022 and promotes cross-border cooperation between the districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach and the district of Schwaz.

The common focal points of the cooperation are "sustainable tourism", "environmentally friendly mobility" and "new work" as well as the cross-cutting topic of "sustainability, climate and environmental protection". Through the Euregio SBM, we can work together even more consistently across borders to realize joint projects from which the citizens of all regions will benefit significantly.

Cross-border projects in the priority areas can be funded with up to 75% INTERREG or EU funds.

Our Euregio office in Schwaz supports regional players in project development, advises on funding opportunities and facilitates cross-border networking and exchange. There are also contact points for initial advice in Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach.

  • Communication campaign to promote the "Bergbus Eng" bus route (BA0300338)

A project as part of the Euregio SBM communication campaign to promote the "Bergbus Eng" bus route (BA0300338) The "Bergbus Eng" connects the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in Bavaria with the Austrian district of Schwaz in Tyrol and enables an environmentally friendly, convenient journey to the Risstal valley in the Karwendel Nature Park.

The common challenge in the program area is to promote sustainable mobility solutions in order to cope with the increasing number of visitors to the region, reduce the environmental impact of private transport and at the same time maintain the attractiveness of the region for tourists.

The project pursues a cross-border approach by strengthening cooperation between Bavarian partners (Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district, Tölzer Land Tourismus) and Tyrolean partners (Karwendel Nature Park, Vomp market town). The introduction of a universal ticket solution, which enables the use of the MVV or Deutschlandticket for the entire route, simplifies cross-border mobility and establishes a sustainable mobility offer.

The overall aim of the project is to raise awareness of the "Bergbus Eng" mountain bus route, significantly increase passenger numbers and position the bus as an integral part of a sustainable nature experience. In the long term, this should encourage a change in mobility habits, particularly among mountain sports enthusiasts, day trippers and tourists who were previously dependent on cars.

    Key data of the project:

Short title of the project: Bergbus Eng
    Project period: 01.04.2025 to 30.11.2025
    Project type:Interreg small-scale project BA0300338

    Funding program: LEADER - CLLD
Field of action: Environmentally friendly mobility

Project partners: Karwendel Nature Park, market town of Vomp

The project runs from April 1, 2025 to November 30, 2025 and aims to sustainably strengthen the region and establish the "Bergbus Eng" as a role model for environmentally friendly transport concepts. Not only tourists, but also the local population and the environment will benefit from a noticeable reduction in motorized private transport in the sensitive natural landscape of the Karwendel region.

The Euregio Schwaz/Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen/Miesbach (SBM ) promotes cross-border cooperation and projects in the shared border region. As part of the EUREGIO SBM, the "Bergbus Eng" project was supported with EU funding from Interreg Bavaria-Austria. • Limitless MINT

The acute shortage of skilled workers is also evident in the field of science and technology. Particularly in the so-called MINT professions (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology), there is often a shortage of skilled workers with completed vocational training.

In response to this, the districts of Miesbach and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and the district of Schwaz in Tyrol have joined forces within the EUREGIO to jointly implement the "Grenzenlos MINT" project.

The aim of the project is to develop cross-border course modules that bring young pupils into practical contact with science and technology in order to arouse their interest in training professions in these areas. A particular focus is placed on professions that contribute directly or indirectly to climate and environmental protection.

"Grenzenlos MINT" brings together stakeholders from education and business across borders. By sharing experiences and concrete needs, existing course concepts and materials are further developed and adapted to the target group. Practical learning gives young adults an authentic insight into exciting professional worlds and in turn promotes training in these areas of work.

Around 15 courses will be held in each region as part of the project. Priority is given to schools and educational institutions in rural areas that have previously benefited little or not at all from offers and support in the STEM field.

The "Grenzenlos MINT" project is supported by the EUREGIO SBM with EU funding from the INTERREG Bavaria-Austria program 2021-2027. The Euregio SBM is a cross-border structure of the districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach as well as the regional management district of Schwaz in Tyrol.

    The project partners

FabLab Oberland e.V. coordinates the "Grenzenlos MINT" project. The association has strong roots in the region and is also familiar with the needs of the youngest citizens of the district of Miesbach. As the largest regional player in the field of STEM education, our association strengthens and expands the local educational offer. We stand for open education in technology, digitalization and science.

Another partner is the klasse!forschung association from Tyrol. This association is successfully committed to improving the importance of practical learning in the STEM fields in Austria. The klasse!forschung association has been networking business, science and education for 10 years now and provides insights into authentic working environments.

The district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Regionalentwicklung Oberland support the project at the level of communication and infrastructure with public administration and educational stakeholders, thus enabling a large number of points of contact in the respective region. The climate protection management of the respective district offices contributes to the deepening of environmental and climate protection in the planned course modules primarily through advice and networking. The economic development department coordinates networking with business associations, chambers and companies.
