The middle school in Bavaria

Secondary schools in Bavaria offer success through practice

Secondary schools guarantee pupils a wide range of educational elements in their educational program, either individually or in school networks.

The secondary school offers a comprehensive educational program for pupils of all ability levels. On the one hand, it is therefore a compulsory school for all pupils who do not wish to attend any other type of secondary school or are unable to do so due to their performance. On the other hand, high-achieving pupils can acquire the intermediate school-leaving certificate in the intermediate school-leaving certificate course (M course) from year 7 onwards.

The broad educational offer of a secondary school has the following characteristics:

  • the three career-oriented branches of technology, business and social affairs,
  • an all-day offer,
  • Courses that lead to the intermediate school leaving certificate at secondary school.

In addition, the middle school offers:

  • structured cooperation with a vocational school, the regional economy and the employment agency, as well as
  • individual/modular support for pupils in class while maintaining the class teacher principle.

The secondary school thus offers tailor-made qualifications for all pupils:

  • Successful completion of secondary school after year 9
  • Qualifying secondary school leaving certificate after year 9
  • Intermediate school leaving certificate at secondary school after year 10
  • Intermediate school leaving certificate at secondary school after year 11

The curriculum, range of subjects and teaching methods cater to the interests, learning styles and talents of secondary school pupils by means of realistic and vocational learning and give the school type its own profile.
