Municipal archive; advice and support with archiving
Brief description
As the specialist authorities for all archiving issues, the state archives advise and support the municipal archives in the preservation and utilization of their archive material.Description
According to the Bavarian Archive Act, it is the responsibility of the municipalities to ensure that their documents are archived. Archiving not only ensures the continuity of administration, but also serves as an indispensable and irreplaceable basis for research into the past.
To fulfill this task, the non-state archives are supported by an honorary archive keeper, who is appointed by the Directorate General of the Bavarian State Archives in agreement with the district.
The district archivist advises the archivists of the municipalities on all archiving issues, on the establishment of a municipal archive or the viewing and selection of existing material in individual consultations and at the annual meeting of archivists. He reports to the superior authorities on the state of the municipal archives and provides an overview of the sources available for scientific and private historical research.Legal basis
