Avalanche warning tasks; organization and coordination
Please note in particular our information under:
Brief description
The organization and coordination of the avalanche warning service is the responsibility of the safety and disaster control authorities (municipalities, district offices, district governments of Upper Bavaria and Swabia) in cooperation with the Avalanche Warning Centre.
Description
In Bavaria, the so-called avalanche commissions advise the safety authorities (municipalities and district offices). The avalanche commissions are made up of experts with local knowledge and mountain experience who meet when necessary to assess the current weather, snowpack and avalanche situation and draw up appropriate recommendations for avalanche safety measures (e.g. road and ski slope closures or artificial avalanche triggering). The safety authorities decide on the implementation of the measures.
The Avalanche Warning Center at the Bavarian State Office for the Environment, where information from a network of measuring and observation stations is collected, compiles and publishes the daily avalanche situation report for the Bavarian Alpine region.
