Information can be provided from the vehicle register (keeper information) if there is a need to pursue legal claims for traffic-related reasons.Description
In order to enforce or defend against legal claims in connection with participation in road traffic (e.g. after a traffic accident), the registration authority can provide information about the owner and/or the liability insurance of a vehicle.
Applications for information from the vehicle register can be submitted by private individuals, lawyers or public bodies. For data protection reasons, it must be submitted in writing with reasons (stating the relevant registration number or vehicle identification number) or in person.
The registration authority administering the license plate is responsible for providing this information.
If you want to make a claim for accidental damage and only need the details of your motor vehicle liability insurance, you can also obtain information free of charge from GDV Dienstleistungs-GmbH & Co. KG (see link under "Further links").
You can also obtain information about your own vehicles from the Federal Motor Transport Authority.
