Prerequisites
The requirements for registering the vehicle are
- You must not have any outstanding fees and expenses from previous licensing procedures.
- You must not have vehicle tax debts of five euros or more.
- If you want someone to represent you when registering your vehicle, you must give this person a written power of attorney. This must also contain a declaration of consent that the registration authority may inform the authorized person of any outstanding fees and expenses. Your representative must present the power of attorney and identify themselves.
- The registration authority may require the vehicle to be presented under certain circumstances.
- The vehicle must have valid proof of the main inspection (HU) and - if necessary - the safety inspection (SP) by the time the export license plate expires.
Deadlines
International approval can be granted for a maximum of one year.

: Extract from the commercial register, business registration, or extract from the association register
: Vehicle registration certificate (Parts I and II) or vehicle registration card and title
: Insurance confirmation for vehicles intended for export
: Inspection report from the most recent general inspection (TÜV, DEKRA, GTÜ, KÜS, GTS, FSP)
If required (trucks, trailers, buses): Proof of the most recent safety inspection (SP)
SEPA direct debit authorization for vehicle tax
If you do not have a permanent residence in Germany and cannot provide SEPA bank account information when registering a vehicle intended for export, the motor vehicle tax must be paid before the export license plate is issued. Fees are charged according to administrative costs (from EUR 31.40).
