Winter hiking at Walchensee - a world of wonder in complete silence

A fascinating ranger tour on Sunday, December 28, 2025

District of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen/Walchensee. A popular excursion destination in summer, a quiet oasis in winter: Lake Walchensee shows a very special side during the cold season. If you would like to discover the wintry magic of this landscape, you are cordially invited to join the guided ranger hike "Winter Hiking Walchensee - A Wonderful World in Silence" on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

Together with a ranger, participants set off in search of traces in the snow-covered countryside. From the meeting point in Niedernach, the tour leads along the shore and off the beaten track towards Sachenbach. Along the way, hikers learn exciting facts about winter life on the lake:
What does the closed snow cover tell us? Which water birds spend the winter here in Bavaria? And why is nature now running on low heat?

The approximately 7 to 8-kilometre hike (pure walking time approx. 1.5 hours) leads along winter hiking trails, paths, gravel and dirt roads as well as short sections of tar and has hardly any inclines. Depending on the weather conditions, the exact route can be flexibly adapted.

Tour dates:
Sunday, December 28, 2025
Meeting point: Niedernach parking lot, 3 p.m.
End: approx. 5:30-6:00 p.m., back at the Niedernach parking lot

Number of participants: min. 6, max. 20 people

Bring:
Sturdy, ankle-high shoes, spikes/spikes, winter clothing suitable for the weather, headlamp, warm drink and snack. Optional: hiking poles, binoculars.

Participants will be informed of the exact duration and route by the rangers after the registration deadline.
