7th meeting of the Oberland ESD network
Bad Tölz/district. "Education for the future". This was the motto of the 7th network meeting of the Oberland ESD network, which took place in the Hochland youth settlement in the fall of 2025. In addition to the current network partners, interested parties from politics and other education stakeholders from the district of Bad Tölz - Wolfratshausen and neighboring municipalities were also invited.
The Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) network in the Oberland region addresses a wide range of topics through various educational programs for pupils, children and young people, as well as for adults and educational professionals. The courses are based on the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations. For example, they address climate change and the energy transition, biodiversity as a necessity for health and prosperity and the protection of human rights in the production of consumer and food products. The aim is to shed light on complex relationships between the environment, the economy and society and to enable people to understand the impact of their actions and play an active role in shaping a future worth living for current and future generations.
In his welcoming address, district councillor René Mühlberger emphasized the great importance of education in making people strong for change. He drew a comparison with his work as head of the Geretsried State Fire Service School, where knowledge, a sense of responsibility and adaptation also play a central role. He emphasized that education is a crucial basis for implementing the sustainability goals and wished the network continued success in society.
Felix Schreiber introduced himself as the district's new climate protection manager. He also referred to the Climate Spring in the Oberland initiated by the districts from April 17 to May 10, 2026, which represents a broad educational offer for the entire population and shows a variety of ways in which climate protection can be lived in society.
The focus of the evening was on getting to know and trying out a variety of methods that enable different approaches. While the world distribution game encourages people to think about the global distribution of the population, world income and CO2 emissions, the values game involves thinking about and discussing basic needs and values. The Quararo democracy learning game, on the other hand, allows players to explore different options for democratic decision-making.
Around 40 participants exchanged views on the future of education for sustainable development in the district and used the World Café to network with each other and develop ideas further. It became clear that exchange and trust within the network are very important in order to build a successful network. For the future, the participants would like to have even more opportunities to learn from each other. It was also emphasized that a network can only exist if all participants are actively involved, take responsibility and remain open to new ideas.
