Mobility management

By bus, train and bike through the Tölzer Land region

The district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen is part of the Munich Transport Association (MVV). This means that the tariff regulations of the MVV apply.

The district is continuously working on expanding public transport to make it more attractive to use public transport in everyday life and for leisure. This makes it increasingly easy to get to work, school and leisure activities by bus and train.

Public transport is a voluntary task of the district.

Local public transport is a voluntary task of the administrative districts and independent municipalities within their own sphere of influence, but at the same time serves to provide services of general interest. In order to secure and improve the existing public transport system, the responsible authority can draw up a local transport plan. Furthermore, the tasks assigned on the basis of membership of Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund GmbH (MVV) are carried out.

The Alpine bus: strengthens the region, connects people

The Alpenbus will be launched with the timetable change on December 14, 2025. The name stands for three new ExpressBus routes that connect Bad Tölz with Tegernsee, Miesbach and Rosenheim as well as Penzberg and Murnau. This means that for the first time there is a continuous east-west connection right across the Alpine foothills - fast, reliable and coordinated with central rail connections in the region. The service is aimed at commuters as well as locals and guests.

The ExpressBuses run every 60 minutes, seven days a week. On board, WLAN, USB ports and comfortable seats ensure maximum comfort. Thanks to the integration into the MVV tariff, passengers benefit from simple ticket solutions and often lower prices, as many routes are within a single tariff zone. The Alpenbus thus helps to relieve congestion on the roads, strengthen the regional economy and make mobility in Upper Bavaria more environmentally friendly overall.

You can find the Alpenbus timetables here:

Advantages of the Alpenbus at a glance
    • Fast and direct: the lines only stop at important transfer points and connect central locations without detours - ideal for commuting, errands or excursions.
    • Travel in comfort: modern buses with Wi-Fi, USB ports and comfortable seating make the journey relaxed and easy to use.
    • Affordable on MVV: Many journeys are within one fare zone, which can result in significant price advantages compared to connections via Munich.
    • Sustainable and climate-friendly: every passenger helps to reduce car traffic and lower CO₂ emissions - a step towards sustainable mobility.
    • Simple and reliable: the continuous 60-minute interval - even at weekends and on public holidays - makes planning easy and ensures a high level of suitability for everyday use.

The Alpenbus makes everyday life easier, improves accessibility and creates modern, networked mobility throughout the Alpine foothills.

  • Primary school competition "Fit for school, fit for the future!"

    Decorative picture

The journey to school is more than just the way to school - it is a learning and experience space in which children develop independence, road safety and social skills. This is exactly where the primary school competition "Fit for school, fit for the future!" comes in, which will take place for the first time in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in 2025.

From September 29 to October 17, 2025, primary school children in grades 1 to 4 are invited to get to school as often as possible in an active and environmentally friendly way - on foot, by scooter, by bike or by bus and train. The aim is to encourage the children's urge to exercise, strengthen cooperation and counteract the "parent cab" problem.

The competition is a joint project of the MVV network districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Dachau, Freising, Miesbach and Starnberg as part of the "Mobile Future Munich" (MZM) alliance.

All participating classes receive a certificate as a reward. Particularly committed schools and classes can look forward to great prizes:

    • 500€ prize money for the most successful school in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen
    • A great class excursion with the forester on the mountain forest adventure trail in Wolfratshausen for the district's winning class
    • And another special highlight: The best school of all MVV network districts receives a visit from the "RoSi" S-Bahn simulator of the Munich S-Bahn - an exciting experience where the children can take the wheel themselves.
