Mobility management
By bus, train and bike through the Tölzer Land region
The district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen is part of the Munich Transport Association (MVV). This means that the tariff regulations of the MVV apply.
The district is continuously working on expanding public transport to make it more attractive to use public transport in everyday life and for leisure. This makes it increasingly easy to get to work, school and leisure activities by bus and train.
Public transport is a voluntary task of the district.
Local public transport is a voluntary task of the administrative districts and independent municipalities within their own sphere of influence, but at the same time serves to provide services of general interest. In order to secure and improve the existing public transport system, the responsible authority can draw up a local transport plan. Furthermore, the tasks assigned on the basis of membership of Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund GmbH (MVV) are carried out.

Mobility management projects
Alpine bus
From the 2025/26 timetable change on December 15, the Alpenbus will connect the region from Murnau to Rosenheim with two national bus routes. The east and west branches will meet in the middle, in Bad Tölz. The Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district office coordinated the project implementation on behalf of the Free State and the districts. The Free State is making a major contribution to the funding. The Alpenbus will run daily every hour to central locations in the Alpine region between Murnau and Rosenheim. Almost at the same time as the introduction of the Alpenbus, the tariff unity will become a reality, as the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen will join the Munich Transport Association on January 1, 2026. One fare, one ticket, one system will then apply along the entire route.
Detailed information on the Alpenbus can be found in the press release dated 13.12.2023

Public transport taster day - free travel in the district
Since 2023, the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen has been participating in the European Mobility Week with its own public transport taster day. Primary school competition "Fit for school, fit for the future!"
The journey to school is more than just the way to school - it is a learning and experience space in which children develop independence, road safety and social skills. This is exactly where the primary school competition "Fit for school, fit for the future!" comes in, which will take place for the first time in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in 2025.
From September 29 to October 17, 2025, primary school children in grades 1 to 4 are invited to get to school as often as possible in an active and environmentally friendly way - on foot, by scooter, by bike or by bus and train. The aim is to encourage the children's urge to exercise, strengthen cooperation and counteract the "parent cab" problem.
The competition is a joint project of the MVV network districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Dachau, Freising, Miesbach and Starnberg as part of the "Mobile Future Munich" (MZM) alliance. All participating classes receive a certificate - and great prizes await particularly committed classes and schools.
