Preparedness for crises
Germany is one of the safest countries in the world. But of course, we can also experience a large-scale power outage or natural disaster that turns everyday life upside down. It can happen that nothing works anymore. So it is all the better if you have taken precautions in good time and know what to do.
The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance provides extensive information material for this case. Citizens can and must make an important contribution to managing the situation themselves in the event of a crisis.
How can I find out about crises in advance?
The public broadcasters issue warnings in advance of impending natural disasters. Their reports are based on warnings from the German Weather Service, for example. The NINA warning app also passes on these warnings and warns of critical situations in advance.
Contact points in the municipalities
When the power goes out and the telephone and mobile phone networks stop working, help and information is needed locally in emergencies. The municipalities have made provisions for this eventuality and set up emergency meeting points. Citizens can turn to these central locations if they need help in a crisis. It is best to find out in advance from your home municipality where you can go.
What can an emergency meeting point do?
An emergency meeting point is supplied with emergency power. This means that emergency calls can be made, information provided and cell phones charged for emergency communication even in the event of a widespread power failure. Depending on the emergency situation, food supplies can also be ensured here.
When can I contact the emergency meeting point?
Only contact your emergency meeting point if you are no longer able to help yourself and no help can be organized in the immediate vicinity. For example,
- if you need medical assistance
- if you need or have to pass on important information
You can also contact the emergency meeting point if you can provide assistance.
Is there always an emergency meeting point?
No, this is always decided depending on the situation. If there is such an emergency meeting point, citizens are informed on site, e.g. via the radio or with the help of loudspeaker announcements.
