Fruit variety ark Benediktbeuern - Häusern

The district of Bad Tölz - Wolfratshausen is one of the project sponsors of the biodiversity project "Apfel Birne Berge - Alte Obstsorten im oberbayerischen Alpenvorland", in which 270 apple and pear varieties threatened with extinction have been bred and replanted in a total of six fruit variety arks.

One of these fruit variety arks is located in Benediktbeuern - Häusern, on an old orchard of the Benediktbeuern monastery. A total of 70 rare, almost forgotten fruit varieties were planted here between the existing old trees as part of a volunteer campaign in October 2023.

The garden is divided into three sections: the front garden is open to the public all year round. The south garden is partially inaccessible during grazing by a herd of Alpine Stone Sheep and the main garden is open for guided tours and events.

The fruit variety ark was realized in cooperation between the district of Bad Tölz - Wolfratshausen and the Centre for Environment and Culture (ZUK) in Benediktbeuern.

The fruit variety ark was financed with funds from the Landscape Conservation and Nature Park Directive (LNPR).

If you are interested in scions of the fruit varieties, please contact the district advisory service for horticulture and landscape conservation at: umwelt@lra-toelz.de.
