    • District of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen
    • District of Berchtesgadener Land
    • District of Garmisch-Partenkirchen
    • District of Miesbach
    • District of Mühldorf am Inn
    • District of Munich
    • County of Rosenheim
    • City of Rosenheim
    • District of Starnberg
    • District of Traunstein

The following processes can be carried out reciprocally in the so-called "extended responsibility":

    • New registration of a brand new vehicle
    • First registration of a used vehicle (usually imported vehicles)
    • Change of vehicle technology or owner data (change of name or address)
    • Transfer from another registration district with and without change of holder
    • Transfer within the registration district
    • Re-registration in the name of the previous owner after previous decommissioning
    • Allocation and deletion of a seasonal license plate
    • Decommissioning
    • Re-sealing of license plates if the current registration certificate Part I has already been issued by the processing registration office.

    Please note:

    • The responsibility of the registration office at your main place of residence or place of business remains the same, even if the registration process was carried out at another authority.
    • Regardless of where the registration process is processed, vehicles always receive a license plate number from the registration authority responsible for the vehicle owner's main place of residence or place of business.
    • In order to process registrations with a preferred license plate, it is necessary to reserve the license plate with the registration authority responsible for the vehicle owner's main place of residence or place of business. When making the reservation, you will receive a PIN number which you must enter to process your registration application.
    • If the vehicle owner has vehicle tax arrears, the application for registration must be postponed until the arrears have been paid.
    • If there are fee arrears at the responsible registration authority, the registration process in Bad Tölz can unfortunately not be processed. In such cases, the applicant must contact the responsible registration office.
    • If an exemption permit is required due to deviations in the construction and operating regulations, the application for registration can only be submitted to the registration authority responsible for the vehicle owner's main place of residence or place of business.

Important tips shortly before the visit

We have put together some helpful information for a successful visit to the vehicle registration authority. You can use this checklist to find your private documents.

  • Procedure at the vehicle registration authority

There is a "ticket machine" in the anteroom of the licensing authorities, where you can activate your appointment either with the QR code or with the reservation number and then the first 3 letters of your surname on your appointment confirmation.

You can take a waiting token at the ticket machine for cancellations; other procedures cannot be processed. They are inserted with a waiting time between the booked appointments.

One request: If you do not need a booked appointment after all, please cancel it.

Your reservation number with your counter number is displayed on the monitor. Your case will be processed by the clerk. Once the registration process has been completed, you will receive a payment card to pay the fees incurred. You can then have your license plates made at the nearby plate services. You go directly to your clerk to have the license plates affixed and will also receive your vehicle documents back there.

  • At a glance - Admission tips - Complete documents save unnecessary waiting times

The most common processing cases that occur at the licensing authority and the documents you need for these are listed below:

You will need it in any case:

Private individuals: valid identity card or passport with registration certificate or foreign passport with registration certificate with electronic residence permit or confirmation of registration

Companies: if applicable, extracts from the commercial register (HRA/ HRB), as well as business registration and identity card/passport of the person responsible and authorized to sign (managing director/authorized signatory)

Associations/partnerships: extract from the register of associations or partnerships, identity card or passport of the person responsible and authorized to sign (board of directors)

Associations: Partnership under civil law (GbR), declaration of consent of the partners involved (see form)

Minors: valid identity card or passport with registration certificate of the minor, declaration of consent of both parents that the minor may be registered, as well as valid identity card or passport with registration certificate of one/ both representative(s)/guardian(s) of the legal guardian(s) (see form)

Important note for the registration of minors: "The owner is anyone who uses a motor vehicle for their own account and has the power of disposal to determine the destination and time of their journey themselves." In the case of minors, the registration can generally be denied due to the lack of owner status if there is no power of disposal due to a lack of (or not even foreseeable) driving license. If corresponding driving licenses are possible or to be expected due to the age of the minor, registrations are permitted with the consent of the legal guardian(s). In the case of minors with severe disabilities, permits can be issued in their name. Corresponding proof as mentioned above, together with the severely disabled person's ID card, must be submitted.

  • Reserve a license plate

In the citizen service portal of the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district office, you can conveniently select and reserve a license plate of your choice.

    Reservation of a license plate
When making a reservation, please note that the total number of letters and numbers must not exceed eight.

In addition to the identification marks TÖL - ... or WOR-..., a maximum of five additional characters are possible. (e.g. a maximum of two letters and up to three digits, or one letter with up to four digits)

If you intend to allocate a history, electric or seasonal license plate, only a combination of letters and numbers with an additional four digits is possible.

It is possible to reserve the "E" for electric license plates or "H" for history license plates. The registration authority decides on the allocation of these letters when the vehicle in question is registered.

    WARNING:

In order to save you inconvenience and additional unnecessary costs, we would like to point out that citizens repeatedly reserve license plates on websites that do not lead to an automatic reservation in our company. This is only done via our own citizen service portal.

In addition, the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District Office does not sell license plates. These can only be purchased from private sellers via online trading or an established embossing office.

The cost of reserving a license plate is €10.20 plus a €2.60 reservation fee. This is only payable when the license plate is actually allocated - upon registration.

We do not charge any fees in advance for a license plate.

You are also not obliged to have license plates embossed in advance. We recommend that you only do this on the day of registration.

  • Direct debit authorization for debiting the vehicle tax

A SEPA direct debit mandate for the collection of vehicle tax must be submitted each time a taxable vehicle is registered. Exception: registration of a purely electric vehicle.

If there are outstanding claims against the main customs office (motor vehicle tax) or the district office, no registration can take place. We can only process your registration after you have submitted a certificate from the main customs office. You can contact the district cash office (Tel. +49 8041 505269) to inquire about arrears with the district office.

  • Tax exemption applications

When registering your vehicle, you can apply for tax concessions or exemptions in the following cases:

    • Tax concessions or exemptions for severely disabled persons according to (form 3809)
    • Tax concession for trailers with trailer surcharge (form 3811), which are carried exclusively behind motor vehicles for which an increased tax has been levied

    and

    tax concessions or exemptions:

    • Buses and coaches in regular service (form 3814)
    • Tractors and trailers in agriculture and forestry (form 3813)

    • Delivery and collection in combined transport (form 3814)

The responsible main customs office in Augsburg decides in detail about tax relief or even exemption. If you have any questions, please contact them.

  • Powers of attorney

If you are unable to come to the vehicle registration authority yourself for any reason, a third party will need a power of attorney completed by you.

Representatives of car dealers also need one if they want to register vehicles for their customers or the company.

If you issue a power of attorney yourself, please note the clause on the disclosure of motor vehicle tax confidentiality.

  • Notes on the sale of vehicles

If a vehicle is sold, given away or otherwise disposed of, the seller must notify the registration authority immediately, stating the full name and address of the purchaser.

The complete notification of sale includes the confirmation of receipt signed by both parties. The confirmation of receipt documents the prescribed handover of the vehicle, the license plates, as well as the registration certificates Part I and Part II, or vehicle registration document and vehicle registration certificate, to the purchaser.

If this notification of sale is incomplete, the tax and insurance obligation does not end for the previous owner (until the vehicle is transferred to the new owner).

To avoid problems, it is recommended to either sell a vehicle when it is deregistered or to make sure that the notification of sale is specific and complete.

This applies in particular if you want to sell your vehicle abroad. It is often difficult or even impossible to submit the necessary documents. Export license plates are available for transferring a vehicle abroad. This is equivalent to transferring the vehicle.

It is also advisable to ask to see the buyer's identity documents when the vehicle is handed over.

  • Electronic insurance confirmation (eVB)

What is the electronic insurance confirmation for?

The electronic insurance confirmation (eVB for short) is the insurance company's proof that liability insurance exists for a motor vehicle.

    What is the eVB?

The eVB is a seven-digit alphanumeric code. The first two characters are always assigned to the insurer. The remaining five characters are randomly combined during generation. The eVB contains key information about the vehicle and the policyholder. Using a secure data exchange procedure, all vehicle registration authorities can access the data stored for the vehicle online via the Federal Motor Transport Authority.

When do I need an eVB?

You need these for the following administrative processes, for example:

    • New registration of a vehicle
    • Re-registration of an immobilized vehicle (if the owner remains the same)
    • Transferring a vehicle to another owner
    • Change of vehicle class/type
    • If applicable, when changing the place of residence to another registration district
    • Applying for a short-term license plate

How and where can I apply for an eVB?

You can apply for this simply and easily directly from the car insurance company of your choice.
