Vehicle license plates; applying for and reserving a desired license plate

For a fee, you can apply for a license plate of your choice or reserve one in advance.

The transfer of a license plate to another vehicle is also an optional license plate, irrespective of whether the license plate was previously allocated "as an optional" or was in use as a so-called serial license plate.

Please note: You can only obtain a special license plate as part of a vehicle registration. Subsequent changes to a license plate combination assigned to a vehicle are only possible for an additional fee.

The registration authorities offer an online service on the Internet. At most registration authorities, you can also reserve or apply for vanity plates in person, in writing or by telephone.

You can access the internet-based processes on the portal of your licensing authority. You will also find further information there.

In order to save you inconvenience and additional unnecessary costs, we would like to point out that citizens repeatedly reserve license plates on websites that do not lead to an automatic reservation in our company. This is only done via our own online service Wunschkennzeichen.

In addition, the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen District Office does not sell license plates. These can only be purchased from private sellers via online trading or an established embossing office.
